IBT of San
Diego CA uses BD2, BD2GUI for the Value Engineering
and Contractor Support during construction of the
Maumee River Bridge in Toledo, Ohio.
IBT also provides consulting services
to the contractor for pre-casting operation, using
Geometry Control program MC3D on the site.

CORVEN ENGINEERING
Corven Engineering of Tallahassee, FL performs Load Ratings
for the State of Florida, using BD2 and BD2GUI. The State
of Florida also uses BD2 and BD2GUI for preliminary design
and for 100% compatibility with consultants using BD2 throughout
the State of Florida. Corven recently completed study of existing
bridges, load ratings, and provided design guidelines and
recommendations to the State DOT regarding the use of the
AASHTO LRFD code in Florida.

ILoad Rating of
Florida Bulb-Tees Spliced Girder Bridges with LRFD
Bridge Designer Software (Version 3.05) was used to
analyze differential creep and shrinkage, as well
as multi-stage slab pouring and post-tensioning of
variable depth spliced-girder bridges in Florida.
The software’s sophisticated composite-section
analysis capability was used, as well as customized
service module that allows for automatic stress combinations
of live and construction loads according to LRFD code.
Results of several load-ratings showing effects of
all Florida overload truck conditions are presented.

Three-dimensional
Analysis of Ramp-A Widening using BD3
BD3 is the three-dimensional version of Bridge Designer
software. It was used to analyze the constructability
and long-term effects of the widening of this 19 span
post-tensioned concrete box-girder ramp of the I75-SR386
Interchange in Miami Dade County, Florida. Long-term
effects of widening the box girder wing, and additional
post-tensioning, including torsion in the deck and
its distribution to the substructure are discussed.
The analysis results are compared with longhand calculations
of the creep and shrinkage stress redistributions.

BUCKLAND & TAYLOR
Buckland & Taylor uses BD2 and BD2GUI to perform
construction support and re-design of the post-tensioned
V-Piers of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Washington
DC.

RALPH WHITEHEAD
AND ASSOCIATES
Ralph Whitehead and Associates of Charlotte, North
Carolina - was selected by the TRB (Transportation
Research Board) National Cooperative Highway Research
Program (NCHRP) for Project 12-57 “Extending
Span Ranges of Precast, Prestressed Concrete Girders”
. The NCHRP describes the project as follows:
“Solutions to increase the span range of precast,
prestressed concrete girders used in the United States
and abroad include splicing segments for longer simple
or continuous spans, connecting simple spans for continuity,
and assembling haunched pier segments in the field.
However, this experience and the technology in applying
these solutions is fragmented and job-specific. The
objective of this research is to develop recommended
load and resistance factor design (LRFD) procedures,
standard details, and design examples for achieving
longer spans using precast, prestressed concrete bridge
girders.
RWA is using BD2 and BD2GUI on a regular
basis to analyze and evaluate prestressed/post-tensioned
spliced-girder bridges for this project and others
