The Strutted Box Widening Method for Pre-stressed Concrete Segmental Bridges

Stantec Consulting used BD2 and BD2GUI to perform parametric study of span-by-span and cantilever bridge models. BD2 was used for detailed analysis of time-dependent construction stages. In this article author Ken Shushkewich presents the “strutted box widening method, “a system that allows a two-lane segmental bridge to be designed and constructed so that it can be easily widened into a three- or four-lane bridge at any time in the future”.

New Bridge Design Add-on Speeds Access to Plans A new graphical user interface for an established bridge analysis software package is enabling bridge designers to more quickly see the results of their work. San Diego-based Interactive Design Systems, which developed Bridge Designer and Bridge Designer 2 in the 1980s primarily for designing pre-stressed concrete bridges, recently introduced BD2GUI, an add-on interface for BD2 that allows users to input and display data graphically.

Bridge Design & Engineering – Q1 1999

New Software Solves Problems - US software specialist Interactive Design Systems has just launched a graphical interface for Bridge Designer II, its analysis and design program for concrete post-tensioned segmental and cable stayed bridges. The snappily-titled BD2GUI provides bridge engineers with access to data in the Bridge Designer RDMS database.

BD2 uses basic matrix structural analysis formulation, combined with time-dependent material properties to carry out a time simulation of a structure under construction. During this process all stress conditions are checked at every construction step and in service, claims IDS.
